Platforms, Exchanges, and Networks

Science research across all disciplines increasingly requires sophisticated instrumentation and analytics supported by high-performance computational resources, storage repositories, sophisticated data management techniques, and specialized facilities - all closely integrated by advanced, high-capacity, reliable communication services and networks.

This distributed, integrated, scalable research cyberinfrastructure created and implemented for new knowledge discovery is evolving into a highly distributed, flexible Global Research Platform, supplemented by cross-continental, continental, and national Research Platforms.

Key foundation resource components for these Research Platforms are specialized high-performance research networks and Software Defined Open Exchange Points (SDXs), which provide interoperability among those networks to address particular challenges of large-scale science interactivity across multiple domains.
